Col. G. Raja Sekhar (Retd.)

An engineer by training, Col. G. Raja Sekhar (Retd.) is Retired Colonel, who has served in the Indian Army, and possesses over three decades of rich and extensive experience in administration, education and institution building.

His engineering credentials, B.E.(mechanical engineering) and M. Tech (thermal engineering), technical expertise, coupled with his academic and administrative skills have been his main assets in the organizations he has previously worked with –  Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DRDO), National Institute of Technology Raipur (NIT Raipur), Indian Institute of Technology Indore (IIT Indore).

As Registrar, IISER Pune, he is the overall In-Charge of general administration, personnel management, security, budget, finance and accounts of the institute.

Prof. Jayant B. Udgaonkar

Prof. Jayant Udgaonkar, Director, IISER Pune, is a distinguished biochemist and molecular biologist.

A biophysicist with over 30 years of research experience, Prof Udgaonkar was at the National Centre for Biological Sciences, Bengaluru, prior to joining IISER Pune. In addition to leading a research group working on protein folding, he has served as the Dean of Faculty and has led the administration and technical teams of NCBS.

A J.C. Bose Fellow and an Honorary faculty member of JNCASR, Bengaluru, Prof Udgaonkar’s research contributions have been widely recognized through the numerous awards and honors he has received including the B.M. Birla Award in Biology and G.N. Ramachandran Gold Medal by CSIR. He is an elected fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences, Indian National Science Academy and The World Academy of Sciences.

Dr. S. Sivaram is an INSA senior scientist, Honorary Professor at IISER Pune, Honorary Professor at IISER Kolkata. A distinguished polymer scientist, Dr. Sivaram previously served as Director, CSIR-NCL, and as CSIR Bhatnagar Fellow and J.C.Bose Fellow. He is a Padma Shri awardee, and a highly decorated scientist with a strong reputation in the academia, R&D and the industry.

Dr. Sivaram is strongly devoted to the cause of R&D commercialization and as Founder-Director, he is responsible for creation of entities for promoting entrepreneurship opportunities in scientific and academic environment, such as Venture Centre, Pune, and AIC-SEED, to name a few.

He also serves on the Board of Apcotex Industries Ltd., Asian Paints Ltd., Deepak Nitrite Ltd., Gharda Chemicals Ltd., GMM Pfaudler Ltd., Supreme Petrochem Ltd., Vyome Therapeutics Ltd., besides being a member of Advisory Board for companies such as Apollo Tyres Ltd, IOC R&D.

Prof. Sanjeev Galande

Director, AIC-SEED

Prof. Sanjeev Galande is a renowned cell biologist, epigeneticist, former Dean, R&D at IISER Pune, and is currently the Dean of the School of Natural Sciences, Shiv Nadar University, Delhi-NCR.

As an entrepreneur at heart, he has been instrumental in envisioning, conceptualizing and creating entities from ground zero: the Centre of Excellence in Epigenetics at IISER Pune, AIC-SEED, and two knowledge based entrepreneurial ventures (Arbuza Regenerate Pvt Ltd, Epidote Healthcare LLP) to name a few.

He is a Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar awardee, an elected fellow of the Indian National Science Academy, Indian Academy of Sciences, and the National Academy of Sciences.

Prof. Nirmalya Ballav

Associate Dean R&D, IISER Pune

Prof. Nirmalya Ballav is Associate Dean (Research and Development) at IISER Pune.

He is also Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry at IISER Pune. Before joining IISER Pune as an Assistant Professor in 2011, he was a postdoctoral fellow at Applied Physical Chemistry, University of Heidelberg, Germany and at Laboratory for Micro and Nanotechnology, Paul Scherrer Institute, Switzerland. His primary research focuses on interfacial materials chemistry – from fundamentals to applications – and research platforms include coordination polymers, low-dimensional materials, and magnetic semiconductors. He has published more than 110 papers in international journals of repute with hi-index 36 and citations over 3400.

Shweta leads AIC-SEED’s efforts in creating and nurturing deep science based startups.

Shweta has over twenty five years of experience, including entrepreneurial experience in the private corporate sector as well as publically funded R&D organizations in India.

She has been working at the interface of technology and businesses to identify market opportunities in highly knowledge intensive areas. Her previous organizations include: National Chemical Laboratory, a constituent laboratory of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, CSIR-Tech Pvt. Ltd., Satyam Computers and Thermax Ltd. She is an entrepreneur herself, being the founder at iTheme Consulting Pvt. Ltd.

She holds degrees in B.Tech (Chemical Engineering), MBA (Finance) and PG Diploma in Patents Law. She is also a registered Patent Agent, and is a recognized IP facilitator by the Govt. of India for the Start Up India initiative. She has helped several inventors from academic institutes, R&D labs and private companies to create value from their innovative ideas.

Lab Facilities Manager

Aswin holds BS-MS dual degree from IISER Pune.

As the Lab Facilities Manager, Aswin coordinates, manage and execute different programs utilizing laboratory and R&D infrastructure and other facilities for incubatees, such as Maker’s Space, Design Studio.

Besides, he also designs and conducts hands on training and workshops focused on prototyping and product design. He is passionate about helping student entrepreneurs to apply their knowledge in interdisciplinary sciences to create customised and innovative products.
